Hydrolastic suspension was invented by Alex Moulton and was used in many production vehicles, the classic mini being just one. The Hydrolastic system replaces the springs or rubbers and dampers/shocks used in the later systems. The hyrolastic system is connected front to back on each side and provides a comfortable ride using displaced fluid.
Hydrolastic suspension provided a great ride but lost popularity due to the maintenance and technical ability required to drain and re-pressurise the system after subframe replacements or welding jobs.
